Your SDA Candidate for Teignmouth West
    together with Ollie Hind

About me: Ricky Marino: A communications specialist by career I bring a great ability to communicate ideas, interpret feedback and, engage with people I meet. Over the past four years in Teignmouth I have made friends, spoken to hundreds of residents, and gotten to know many business owners. My interest in becoming a candidate for councillor was sparked and stoked during the parking saga that has plagued the Bitton House area for three years which has highlighted the need for the council work better with local residents and businesses on solutions that benefit us all., parking situation has highlighted. We have everything to gain by making our town a friendlier, supportive, and sustainable destination.
Having worked for a charities the majority of my career, I have dedicated my life to supporting and helping others, often working outside of my comfort zone and with restricted budgets, making me an ideal candidate for Councillor. My partner and I also run a Trusted Assessing training company that helps organisations improve the level of care their staff deliver to those that need it the most.
Outside of my professional life I am father to a wonderful little boy and as he gets older I want to ensure that our little part of the world is as great a place to him as it was to us when Teignmouth brought us here.

History: Parking issues in Teignmouth have been a continuous concern for residents, workers and visitors alike. Our seaside town's popularity during peak tourist season leads to congestion on narrow streets and limited parking availability but schemes introduced to control have negatively impacted residents, business owners, and workers throughout the year instead and have not solved the root issue causing frustration and accessibility issues for everyone who contributes to Teignmouth’s economy. I understand these frustrations as a father to a toddler, often returning home after picking my son up and being faced with the choice of paying to park for the night or parking further away.
The schemes introduced by the town council over the years have not taken onboard local resident and business feedback which has understandably led to negative reactions from residents and workers who are being unfairly charged for reduced parking in their own town despite their contributions to Teignmouth’s economy.
Improving the parking situation in Teignmouth will require collaboration between the town council, residents, and local businesses. By addressing these issues, we can continue to thrive as a popular tourist destination whilst also improving the quality of life for residents.

    What I will do:
If elected I will work to improve the situation for all. Working with residents and local businesses, we can assess the situation and look at not just the problems but also the solutions, solutions such as:

    • New parking facilities.
    • Smart parking strategies.
    • Changes to existing parking structures to make it fairer for residents.

Communication and collaboration is key. I understand the importance of communicating with locals that live and work here and will look to involve them every step of the way. By acting  and prioritising parking solutions, I will improve the daily lives of people who live and work in Teignmouth.
